Bangalore or Bangaluru, the ‘Garden City of India' , capital of the southern state of Karnataka, India’s third most populous city and a growing metropolis, is home to some of the best known institutions. It houses educational establishments, heavy industries, software companies, aerospace, telecommunications and defence organizations.
SOS Children’s Village Bangalore was established in 1989 and is located at Hulimavu, opposite the Meenakshi Temple on the city’s outskirts. The Village is spread over an area of six acres.
SOS Children’s Village Bangalore is home to 203 children, 78 boys and 125 girls living in16 family homes, 2 youth houses, boarding schools and hostels. This year 18 new children came home to the Children’s Village. The Village is well equipped with social amenities and educational & medical facilities.
78 children attend the Village Kindergarten. While 21 children come from the Children’s Village, 57 come from the neighbouring community. Creative hobbies like painting, paper craft and clay work are an important part of its activities.
Children performed well in their annual exams and almost all have been promoted to the next grades. Children passing class X have admission into pre university courses. They have joined arts, commerce and the science stream. Youngsters after completing their graduation have joined Masters level courses in Business Administration, Tourism& Administration and Company Secretary courses. Two are studying for an International Baccalaureate Diploma at the United World College, Norway & Costa Rica. Four girls are pursuing graduation in Engineering and two are doing post graduate studies in Science and Social Work.
