Now completing 22 years of service for children in need is SOS Children’s Village Faridabad, set up in the industrial capital of Haryana. It was established in 1987, primarily to serve as a field demonstration model for the SOS Mothers Training School. It is a mini Children’s Village comprising of 5 houses and home to 63, happy children. Being in the National Capital Region it has good telecommunication, transportation, educational & medical facilities available.

Facilities attached to the Children’s Village include a Day Care Centre and a Learning Centre consisting of a Computer lab, Library, Music & Dance and an Activity Room. Resource persons guide children on hobbies and careers during vacation.

Children attending schools are progressing well. Some of our youngsters have shown exceptional talents and aptitude. Yash has been selected by the United World College, Costa Rica for an International Baccalaureate Diploma; Dolly has joined a three program in Journalism & Mass Communications; Jahnvi has secured a merit scholarship from Westminister College, United States for a 4 year Degree course. One of our girls Devleena received the ‘Best Employee Award’, while Mother Ms Sadhna Bhatnagar received the ‘Big Women’s Achievement Award’.

Presently 14 young adults of different ages and pursuing studies in schools and colleges and in vocational training are doing well. Areas of specialization include: small industries training, electrical trade, marketing & finance, and business administration.

The SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Faridabad is a co-educational English medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Delhi. The school has strength of 782 students, from Lower KG to Class XII, of which 159 children are from the SOS Children’s Villages. Besides encouraging participatory, interactive and experimental competitions the school encourages discussions, role-plays and group work.

The SOS Helmut Kutin Vocational Training Centre provides accredited ‘O’ level computer education to youth from the local community and SOS youth. The centre is accredited by ‘DOEACC’ Society, under Govt of India for conducting computer courses. The Centre also provides vocational stream of Nursery Teacher Training and computer Education as per CBSE syllabus to the school and Nursing School students.

The Family Strengthening Program started in 2003 reaches out to 154 children and their families in the neighbouring community. Of these children 72 have moved to formal school from the outreach program. During the year awareness camps and medical check ups are organized for all the children and mothers. To strengthen families economically, self help groups are in the process of being formed, and efforts to tie up with other organizations for tapping resources are under way.
