CHILDREN’S VILLAGE

This is the first SOS Children’s Village which was established in India in 1964. It is situated 20 km. south of New Delhi, on the Delhi –Agra highway, in the foothills of the Aravalli ranges. It was dedicated to the service of the children of the nation by the late Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi on 22nd January, 1970.

Presently there are 217 children. 17 are staying in boarding schools and hostels, 14 girls are in the girls’ facility while the remaining children are in the Village. The Village has married and settled 224 youth till now.

34 children go to the Village Kindergarten where the emphasis is on play way methods to make studies interesting and creative. Innovative teaching techniques comprising computers, cartoons, mask making and games are used to make learning fun.

The children’s academic results are encouraging with almost 60% children securing a first division. It was a proud moment for the village as all five students of class XII passed with flying colours. All of them have got admission in well known colleges in Delhi to pursue higher studies.

During summer vacation an interesting range of activities were organized comprising a paper cutting workshop, quiz, debates, painting and dancing. Local and national festivals were celebrated with joy and colour. Summer camp was organized at the beautiful hill station of Dehradun. Two of SOS Greenfields children, Anadi and Sakina have brought laurels to the village by winning the CBSE District Sahodaya Basketball Championship 2008 for their school.
