Forthcoming Event

SOS Children's Villages of India hosts Tara Ali Baig event in the month of August every year, coinciding with the birthday of the President of the Organisation, Late Smt.Tara Ali Baig .

Born in Mussoorie on August 08, 1916, educated in Darjeeling, Switzerland and Dhaka, Smt. Tara Ali Baig was one of India's most eminent social workers. She began her public life in 1937 when she was appointed to the first Planning Committee as Convener of a group to examine the social and economic disabilities of women. From 1968 onwards she was the Vice President, SOS Kinderdorf International, and Austria.

As President of SOS Children's Villages of India for over two decades she played a pivotal role in the development and strengthening of the SOS work with children in India. The organisation grew from a small nucleus to a large effective child care organisation. With the growth of the organisation over the years she was actively involved in the care and bringing up of grown up girls and boys for whom a number of welfare schemes for training and employment were promoted by her. She was very eager that grown-up children in SOS Children's Villages of India should develop in themselves an attitude of self help and self-dependence. Her personal touch and active interest in the day-to day needs and functioning of the organization are remembered on this day.

To memorize this day every year a lecture by an eminent Key Note speaker is also delivered .The topic is normally related to children and childcare, matters. Last year Ms Kiran Bedi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. This year Tara Ali Baig Memorial lecture will be organized on 29 th August in India Internation Centre.
