CHILDREN’S VILLAGE

After Jammu, SOS Children's Village Srinagar, was planned to provide help and support to around 600 children suffering from the decade old militancy in the state. This mountainous region, which has been known as "heavens of the planet" for its abundant natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, is fast shedding its luster. The numerous terrorist acts against the civil population have rendered scores of families homeless and many children without parents.

SOS Children's Village Srinagar became operational in April 2004 with 22 children in three families. On 26th October 2004, 13.8 acres of land at Nawab Bagh, Ganderbal in Srinagar was allotted to SOS Children's Village Srinagar by the J&K Government. At present, Children's Village Srinagar is temporarily operating from rented accommodations at Hyderpora by-pass and Baghat-e-Barzulla at the Srinagar suburb. The SOS Children's Village office is situated at Airport Road in rented accommodation.

At present 55 children (26 girl & 29 boys) are receiving long term family care in the SOS Children's Village Srinagar in six family homes namely Habba Khatun, Lal Ded, Pamposh, Chinar, Ded Moer and Moji Moer. Six mothers and five aunts are looking after these children. 48 out of these 55 children are studying in M.E.T. School, J.K. Public school and Salfia Muslim Institute.

FAMILY STRENGTHENING PROGRAMME
