Cultural capital of the state of Kerala, Trichur is a well connected tourist destination with good communications, transportation, medical and education facilities. It’s nearest Airport is Cochin, just 65 Kms from Children’s Village.
SOS Children’s Village Trichur which completed 25 years of dedicated love and care had its Silver Jubilee celebrations in January 2008. It has at present 208 children living under the care of loving SOS mothers in 17 family homes. Leaving behind memories of their sad past these children are moving towards a fresh new life, success and happiness. During the past year 21 children found home in SOS families and have adjusted well to their new environment. A Kindergarten in the Children’s Village looks after the needs of our youngest children, along with 40 youngsters from the neighbouring community.
Children’s all round growth is seen in their academics, sports and settling into careers. Of the 141 school going children, 140 were promoted to the next class. 21 children who appeared for their class X and XII board exams qualified with high marks. 5 girls have received the Dewan Foundation Scholarship for academic excellence. One girl was selected to the National Junior Basketball Coaching Camp and another selected to the District School Basketball team. 17 children bagged first prizes and 8 second prizes in sports.
Summer holidays saw a wide range of camps in the areas of career guidance, theatre, games, creative writing, poster & collage making to help nurture children’s talents. A special six day outing to the Wayanad hills had children asking for more. They enjoyed sight-seeing, boating and cultural performances.
